I opened system preferences on my Mac that was running the RD client, and under keyboard I noticed that my input source was set to Canadian English. If you login using remote desktop, or locally does not matter. If you open Terminal Server Client, you will see Protocol option (RDP, RDPv5, VNC), RDP and RDPv5 are for rdesktop connection.
